Beyond ABA Care exists because when my kids were young, almost everything I could find about therapy for neurodivergent children came from the people selling the therapy. This page explains who writes this site, how posts are put together, and what this site is not.
Who writes this site
Every post here is written by me, Heather Mac. I am a parent of two neurodivergent children. I am not a clinician. I am not a BCBA, an occupational therapist, a speech pathologist, a psychologist, or a physician, and I have no clinical license of any kind. Beyond ABA Care is not affiliated with, owned by, or sponsored by any clinic, therapy provider, insurer, or professional organization.
Nothing here is medical advice
This site is a parent writing about lived experience and published research. It is not medical, psychological, educational, or legal advice, and reading it does not create any kind of professional relationship. Decisions about your child’s care belong to you and the professionals who actually know your child. Please do not delay, stop, or change a treatment because of something you read here without talking to your child’s care team first.
If your child is in crisis or you are worried about their immediate safety, contact your physician or local emergency services.
How posts are researched and written
- Personal experience is labeled as personal experience. When I write about what happened in our family, I say so.
- Claims about research are linked to the source, and I try to link to the study or the professional body rather than to another blog summarizing it.
- Where the evidence is genuinely contested, I say that it is contested instead of picking the side that suits the post.
- I write about approaches to supporting neurodivergent kids, including criticism of practices that are widely recommended. That criticism is aimed at practices and systems, never at individual families or the choices they made.
- No AI system writes the substance of these posts. Where a tool is used for drafting or editing help, the ideas, experience, and final judgment are mine.
Corrections
If something on this site is wrong, out of date, or unfair, I want to know. Corrections are made on the page itself and noted at the bottom of the post when the change is substantive. You can reach me through the contact page.
